What You Will Need

For a simple box bed frame, you will need:

• Plenty of a High Quality Wood: Having extra on hand is always a good idea in case there are mistakes with cuts or measurements.
• Saw
• Measuring Tape
• Pencil
• Wood Glue
• Wood Screws
• Veneered Plywood

Step One: Measure the Size of Your Bed

Use the measuring tape to measure all sides of your bed. Mark these measurements down on a piece of paper if you will be going outside of the bedroom to cut the pieces of wood for the frame.

Step Two: Cut the Pieces of Wood

Measure the pieces of wood according to the measurements from your bed. Use the pencil to mark the measurement and the saw to cut the wood accordingly.

Step Three: Glue the Pieces of Wood Together Using a High Quality Wood Glue

Use a high quality wood glue, such as Gorilla Glue to glue the pieces of the bed frame together as according to your measurements.

Step Four: Add Screws to Support the Wooden Frame

Once the glue has dried according to the directions on the bottle, you will want to add wood screws to properly secure all the pieces of the bed together.

Step Five: Attach Support Beams

If you are building a bed frame for a bed larger than a full size bed, you will want to add support beams to the frame. The number of support beams you add is up to you, but there should be at least one in the center of the frame to help support the weight and size of the mattress. Measure and cut the beams as according to Step Two. The support beams can be attached with screws only, rather than gluing first and adding the screws later.

Step Six: Attach a Sheet of Veneered Plywood to the Top of the Frame

To finish the frame, attach a piece of veneered plywood to the top of the frame. This can be attached with wood screws, rather than glue.

If you're feeling bold, you can also use this frame to build a four post bed frame. You will need four square posts, cut to the the height of your choice. The square posts should be slightly larger than the interior of your mattress. Attach the posts to each corner of the bed frame. Attach two bed rail hangers to the posts where the bed rails will be. Cut grooves in the supports you would use as slats. Attach the veneer piece of plywood. Now you have a nice four post bed frame for your bed to sit on.
