The sheets are available in the following sizes. The twin measures 39 x 75 inches (or 99 x 190 cm). The extra long twin is 39 x 80 inches (99 x 203 cm). The full bed sheet on the other hand, measures 54 x 75 inches (137 x 190 cm).
The queen sheet is larger at 60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm). The California king sheet is 72 x 84 inches (or 182 x 213 cm). The king bed sheet measures 76 x 80 inches (or 198 x 203 cm).
What is the Fitted Sheet?
These are the sheets you use to cover the mattress. They are also known as bottom sheets. Whatever the fitted sheet sizes are, it will usually have some elastic sewn into the edges. This design ensures it will stay put on the mattress.
The bed sheets can be purchased separately or with a flat sheet and pillow case. Those sold individually are known as open stock. If purchased with other bedding, it is called a complete set or set. The set can have a pillow case for twin beds or a couple for the various other sizes.
Those who want coordinated bedding should purchase the set. But if you want to make a specific theme, it's better to buy open stock.
Using Fitted Sheets
Some people have problems with the fitted sheet because they don't always stay put. Majority of mattresses have standard widths and lengths. But they don't have standards for thickness.
It is the thick mattress that often causes problems with these bed sheets. A deep pocket or wide flat sheet has to be used with thicker pillow top mattresses.
Materials and Thread Count
Egyptian cotton, combed cotton, silk, flannel and satin are just some of the materials used. The choice is up to you. For some the thread count is more important.
A fitted sheet with a high thread count will be more comfortable and durable than one with a low count. 300 and higher thread counts will be very soothing.
